Most of us will be part of the American cultural experience on February 1, 2009. That is the date of Super Bowl XLIII where the Pittsburg Steelers will play for the Super Bowl Championship against the Arizona Cardinals. This will be a day of cheering, partying, drinking, and eating a lot of chips.

It's expected that some 100 million people will watch the Super Bowl. For a select few, they will party and watch the game live in Tampa Bay, Florida. This article is about how to get your exercise if you happen to be one of the lucky few who get to be "there" live.

The first step is to find out where you will party. One option is Leigh Steinberg's 23rd Annual Super Bowl Party at the Tampa Lowry Park Zoo. Mr. Steinberg holds his annual party every year the day before the Super Bowl. As in previous years, his party will attract a lot of celebrities. Another annual party is Pamela Anderson's "Athletes and Angels" bash. Anheuser-Busch will also have a party with live music and drinks in Tampa's Channel district.

Now that you've found your venue, realize that parties mean extra calories. So let's do our best to increase our metabolism and burn rate before attending. The easiest way to do this is to do a walking site-seeing tour. If you are inspired, you can also do a jogging or biking tour.

A good place to start is the visitor center, located at 111 E. Madison Street. You can walk around the area and see old buildings mixed in with very modern architecture. Check out the Tampa Bay Hotel and the Henry Plant Museum at 401 W. Kennedy. Henry Plant built this hotel around 1890 when he brought his railroad to the Tampa area and gave the city it's start.

Outside of town, you can take in the 3 mile white sand beach at Caladesi Island State Park. A jog along the beach will burn at least 250 calories. That will give you enough buffer for one tasty party snack or beverage.

Another neat place to wander is the Salvador Dali Museum. Visiting a museum is not quite as aerobic as a run on the beach, but at least you'll be on your feet as you enjoy work this fine artist. This museum boasts the most comprehensive collection of Dali's work ranging from 1914 to 1980. The museum is located at 1000 3rd Street.

Finally, for some lawn bowling and shuffleboard action, visit the Coliseum at 535 4th Avenue. The Coliseum, by the way, was in the movie "Cocoon." This is a cool bit of info to share with the kids.

There are many more places to visit of course in the Tampa Bay area. But the final tip that I'll share is to get some rest before attending your Super Bowl parties. The fact that you were able to walk, jog and explore the city by bike and foot is a great way to get some exercise before consuming all those calories at the parties and on game day.

If you'd like a list of more places to visit around Tampa Bay before the big game, see the website VisitTampaBay. More info on Leigh Steinberg's 23rd Annual Super Bowl Party can be found at http://leighsteinberg.com.
